Call for Volunteers: Preservation Maryland's Mount Hope Church Workday

  • Saturday, October 28, 2017
  • 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Mount Hope Baptist Church, 8705 Gilroy Road, Nanjemoy, Maryland 20662

Join Preservation Maryland and the preservation communities of Maryland and Charles County as they convene at the historic Mount Hope Baptist Church for a volunteer workday on October 28th.

Two volunteer activities will be happening simultaneously on site: the documentation of the historic farmhouse and the cataloging of over 200 headstones located within an historic African American cemetery.

Historic farmhouse on site

Neither effort requires a high level of expertise, although volunteers with field experience recording historic structures are encouraged if interested in the farmhouse documentation. This is a one-day, broad effort at the farmhouse, and volunteers will be asked to provide their own documentation tools (pencils, pens, graph paper, measuring tapes, cameras, etc.). Volunteers will be asked to use a smart phone app to catalogue the headstones.

Lunch will be provided to all volunteers by members of the church congregation. AIA credits will not be provided for this event.

If you are interested in being part of a team to complete either of these one-day documentation efforts or if you would like more information, please contact Meagan Baco at mbaco@presmd.org or by phone at (410) 685-2886 x 308 by September 30th.

We hope to see you there!
