Join APT DC and The Cosmos Club Historic Preservation Foundation in welcoming David Riccio and Marcie Clifford of John Canning Preservation for an insightful presentation of their restoration work at DC’s famed Cosmos Club. Canning Preservation’s work focuses on historic paint and other decorative finishes. The Foundation is charged with the care of this National Register property, ensuring the Secretary’s Standards are followed in all work to the historic parts of the building. Together, they have tackled the restoration of the Warne Ballroom (where the lecture will take place) as well as the Club’s lobby. David will be presenting on the work that took place, including paint analysis and progress photos, as well as discussing the techniques and unique challenges of this space. The Ballroom restoration has received multiple awards, including a Stewardship Award for the Foundation from the DC Preservation Office. After the lecture presentation, we will have a brief guided tour of the Club to see this restoration work up close. Admission will include light refreshments and beverages including wine and beer.
As this is a private club, there is a dress code. Gentlemen are expected to wear jackets, dress slacks, a collared long-sleeved shirt (tucked-in) or turtleneck at all times. Ties are not required. Ladies are expected to dress in an equivalent fashion, which means dresses, suits, skirts or dress slacks with jackets or tops of equivalent formality. The event starts at 5:30 pm and we anticipate the lecture to begin promptly at 5:45 pm. We will be applying for 1.0 AIA Credits for this event. Registration will close on March 15th. Hope to see you there!
